The last several weeks I have been in a rut with my photos. I really needed something different to get the creative juices flowing.
I decided to try something new. I pulled out my iPad (a tablet or smart phone will work as well). I cleaned the screen until I could no longer see any fingerprints or dust. It’s amazing how easily an iPad or tablet collects dust and fingerprints! I moved a table close to the window so I could use the natural side light streaming in from the window. Then with the iPad face up on the table, I arranged some acorns on it. I added a black foam board for a backdrop and started photographing the acorns from different angles.
I had the greatest success with using a tripod and setting the camera lens aperture wide open. I started with F5.6 quickly moving to F3.3. Then I adjusted the angle of the iPad to get more reflection and less background.
When I processed my photo, I decreased the exposure, increased the contrast, then adjusted the shadows and highlights a bit. Next, I removed the handful of dust spots that showed up when I moved the photo to my computer screen. I love the results! I hope you will give it a try as well. It was a lot of fun.
Until Next Time…
